Before reading this post, please make sure you’re familiar with this previous post where I talk about Spirit salvation at Newbirth. I also shared the different components of Man in the Hearing God series.

Thank you!

It’s easy to assume some terminologies of scripture mean the same as the definition of the world. But one thing I’ve been learning in my growth is this:

Never assume scripture

Scripture must interpret scripture. The HolySpirit who is the author must be the one interpreting it.

If you don’t understand something, just relax and move on to another part of the bible. The more you grow, the more understanding will come.

There are truths that have come to me years after I got born again. Many years after! And it blew my mind. So don’t push it. With more growth comes more revelation.

So what is Eternal life? The first thing we need to know about Eternal life is the definition:

Eternal Life/Salvation is NOT the SAME as ‘making Heaven’

And this is the way to have eternal life—to KNOW you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

john 17:3

The bible hardly defines terms. But Jesus defined the term Eternal life. He probably did because it’s easy to assume Eternal life is living forever or just going to heaven.

Even angels will live forever and they currently live in Heaven!

But Eternal life is not living forever. Eternal Life is knowing God and living out the Life of God in our Spirit, Soul and Body. Full salvation guarantees us Eternal life.

Eternal life is living a sinless life. Becoming like Jesus in deed and truth.

Now it’s easy to assume we know God because we are heaven bound as christians, but whoever knows God CANNOT Sin. It means your heart cannot even produce Sin. You cannot know God and Sin. You are exactly like Christ so sin cannot be in you anymore.

We know that whosoever is born of God SINNETH NOT; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

1john5:8

Christ is the Man that CANNOT Sin. So we must become like Him. To become like Him is to have Eternal Life. This is why Christ MUST be formed in Us.

Eternal life is to be inherited in our continuous following of Jesus

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to INHERIT eternal life?”

mark 10:17

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, FOLLOW Me.”

mark 10:21

We are told Jesus beheld him then and LOVED Him.

Why?

Because that’s the sweet spot of Jesus! Eternal life.

But if eternal life was just based on the New-birth alone, Jesus could have told him what he told Nicodemus.

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can SEE the kingdom of God unless they are BORN AGAIN.

john 3:3

But look at what Jesus said in Mark 10:21:

Follow Me!

You can be born again and not follow Jesus or obey Him. Knowing someone takes time. It’s a process. We cannot know God in one day or the moment we got born again.

Eternal life isn’t gotten passively. Eternal life is to be laid hold of. It is to be pursued. It is to be inherited. As transform and become like Christ, we inherit Eternal life in our souls.

Fight the good fight of faith, LAY HOLD on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

1Timothy 6:12

It means we have to be matured Christians to even fight the good fight before laying hold on Eternal life.

A baby Christian cannot fight but must be nurtured until he can WEAR the armour of God, strong enough to fight.

Eternal security is obtained through Obedience to God’s will

Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel fail to receive a hundredfold in the present age—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.

mark 10:29-30

When I got born again, I didn’t leave father or mother or brothers and sisters. Maybe some did. But as we keep following Jesus, all kinds of persecutions will come. We will have to keep laying down our lives daily.

This is how we inherit Eternal life.

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

galatians 6:8

If Eternal life was given to us at the Newbirth, we wouldn’t need to reap anything. But scripture here is telling us ‘we reap what we sow.’

If we are sowing into obeying God, our end is everlasting/eternal life. But if we are obeying flesh and allowing temptations to overthrow us, we will reap corruption.

With Eternal life in my Spirit, am I eternally secure, even if I don’t inherit it in my Soul?

  1. To be Eternally saved/secure is to be like God. So we must understand that our Souls and Spirits MUST be saved. It’s the reason why Jesus came to die. I shared more on that here.

Soul Spirit and Body has come into full godliness until we CANNOT turn back from the gospel.

It means like God, there’s no temptation to move us away from the truth. We are rooted and grounded in the fullness of God.

We will know God the way He knows us.

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I KNOW in PART; then I shall KNOW FULLY, even as I am FULLY KNOWN.

1Corinthians 13:12

Inside out.

I want to know Christ–yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

philipians 3:10

So saying we are eternally secure after the New-birth and without continuous growth/obedience IS NOT Scriptural.

Paul was still admonishing the Galatian church against sinning.

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not INHERIT the kingdom of God

galatians 5:19-21

Eternal security is AN END to Sin in our bodies. It means your soul is secure and saved from sin forever.

You and God are beginning to think and respond alike.

But we haven’t gotten to that stage yet.

We still have a choice to obey and live for God

Just because a man gets born again today doesn’t mean he’s bound in it forever. God will NEVER hold anyone against their will if they choose to turn back or reject Him afterwards.

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

hebrews 10:38

It’s unscriptural to think God will force people to Love Him!

He’s ever willing to save men to the uttermost, but we must be willing too.

If he didn’t force Adam, he WILL NEVER force us.

It is impossible for those who have once been ENLIGTENED, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, and then have fallen away—to be restored again to repentance, because they themselves are crucifying the Son of God ALL OVER and subjecting Him to open shame

But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

hebrews 6:4-6

Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

hebrews 10:29

We must come to a place where we have become like Christ and can say with Boldness and all sincerity:

for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

john 14:30

Is it possible to enter Eternal Security on Earth? Is it possible to be perfect like Jesus in the flesh?

Yes! It is very possible!

Because the blood of Christ is powerful enough to save us to the uttermost. Not just in confession, but a natural way of life.

Here’s an example of a man who did:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have KEPT the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

2timothy 4;7-8

Do you remember the good fight of faith Paul admonished Timothy to fight earlier in 1Timothy 6:12 so he could lay hold on Eternal life?

Yep! Paul came to the End of it. He finished it. It’s safe to say He attained eternal salvation/security. He came into Eternal Life.

So don’t give up. For he who began a good work in You will Perfect it. I hope to do more on this topic with time.

Do stay tuned.

Bloom with Love. Xx!
