How to seek God with your whole heart

To seek God with your whole heart, you must be willing to give your life for it. Seeking God with your whole heart is a life-transforming process and a journey to discovering the true personality of God. There was a time in my life when fear prevented me from seeking God and surrendering all to Him.

I was a born-again believer, but I was so afraid of letting go of my will.

Although a part of me felt I was seeking God, another part of me knew I wasn't totally surrendered to Him. Although I went to church, spent time with God, and engaged in physical activities, part of me still held back.

Also, I did not see the benefit of seeking God alone. Christ didn't feel enough. What about my dreams and goals and every vision I'd built for myself?

I'd always believed God was present to fuel them. But as I drew closer to God and understood what happened at salvation, I learned something important.

To seek God with your whole heart, understand that your life is no longer yours

We were dead in trespasses and sins. So we had no life before Jesus came.

Understanding the depth of this will enable you to seek God with the new life you've been given.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me

Galatians 2:20

One day, I asked God.

How does a man chase you?”

And He replied, “How do you chase your dreams?”

His answer was self-explanatory, except I wanted to lie to myself.

God wanted the same energy I poured into my passion for Him. That was when I knew it I couldn't chase God and my dreams. No matter how much I tried to work it out

Because one would take me away from the other.

It took me a while to understand and see God as my purpose and destiny. And it’s not surprising because it’s an innate desire of man to pursue visible things that look promising. It’s the reason why we make investments and enroll in courses or programs that will bring profit and recognition.

But in seeking God, it’s so easy to be lackadaisical about it. Chasing God isn’t visible to the natural man because we are used to investing our lives into things we can see, into the things that will benefit us in the long run. It’s the reason why subconsciously we analyze our desire for God by what He provides.

What can this God do for me?

Oh, if he can give me things that pertain to my natural life, I will worship him.

So He becomes like an idol that we can pacify with some prayers and songs.

With such a mindset, it’s hard to see God as a lifestyle. This is the reason why some people get offended when God begins to demand us to lay down our lives, take up our cross, and follow Him.

We need to start asking ourselves uncomfortable questions. Questions about our why.

Why am I seeking God and How can I seek Him?

If our call as Christians is to seek God above all else and our destiny is to transform into the image of Christ, then how do we begin?

How do we know we aren’t chasing him in vain?

How can we keep abiding when life seems stagnant in the natural?

What do we stand to lose?

And if we lose, is our chasing God worth it at the end of it all?

Understand that you exist for the sole purpose of seeking God

Understanding that you exist to seek God is the beginning of how to seek God with your whole heart.

We may believe we exist for different reasons as society preaches to us.

But as far as God is concerned, his reason for creating Mankind is to come into the Fullness of His Son. –Ephesians 4:13. So whatever we do (career, marriage, lifestyle) has to be a means to an End, and not the End itself.

God is our beginning and end and until we come to the knowledge of this truth, we’ll keep idolizing every other thing that’s less than God’s will for our lives.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all.

Ecclesiastes 12:13

We may have done everything our heart desires on Earth and believe heaven is our retirement home.

But it doesn’t work that way. Eternity begins here and now.  Earth is the place where our pleasing God begins. It is on earth we must grow spiritually and keep following Jesus even as our heart transforms into His likeness.

We reap what we sow. If we aren’t sowing into God’s life and purpose by seeking Him above all else, we won’t reap from it.

It’s that simple.

Even in the natural, we gain from what we've invested in over time.

Prioritize Him in your choices

When we put God FIRST, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives. Our love of the Lord will govern the claims for our affection, the demands on our time, the interests we pursue, and the order of our priorities.

Ezra Taft Benson

What if we changed God first to God ONLY?

What if we begin to see God as our first and only choice where do other choices stem from?

How about making God our reason for living?

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with ALL your heart, with ALL your soul, and with ALL your mind.’

Matthew 22:37

How do we lay down our life daily to please God and do His will?

By prioritizing him in our decisions, our relationships, and everything else that matters to us. By seeking His face daily

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight

Proverbs 3:5-6

Do you know how to fulfill God's purpose for your life?

How to follow God's plan for your life

How can Christ be formed in you?

If there's one thing I've learned in my journey with God, it's how jealous he is.

Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.

Song of Solomon 8:6

If we don't seek him with everything within us, if our life doesn't reflect his, then we will be settling for less than God's will for us.

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with ALL your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

When Jesus gave His life for us on that cross, when God prioritized our salvation above everything else, it wasn't for us to make Him a side thought. But for us to surrender our lives to Him and embrace the one He has for us.

This is how we seek God with our whole hearts. By living for Him alone.
